and with Vierzon in France
City of Hereford Twinning Association
TheCity of Hereford Twinning Association (HTA) was constituted in 1987 with the aim of promoting international friendship and understanding and of fostering the mutual exchanges at all levels between the peoples of the twinned towns. Each year the Mayor of Hereford is invited to be President of the Association.
Hereford has been twinned with Dillenburg in Germany since 1989 and with Vierzon in France since 1994.
Over the years the Twinning Association has maintained through the TownHall lively and interesting exchanges with many groups in Dillenburg and in Vierzon which have contributed to a mutual understanding of each other’s cultures.
In addition, the Association has, often ‘behind the scenes’, provided encouragement and support to groups in Hereford who were keen to establish links with similar groups in the partner towns.
Members of the Association, along with Hereford’s Mayors and City Councillors, i.e. the Association’s Presidents and members, have been present at formal events in Dillenburg and Vierzon – and official delegates from Vierzon and Dillenburg at formal events in Hereford – thus raising the profile of the City of Hereford abroad.Both our twin towns had stalls at the Three Counties Show in 1996 and the Mayors of Dillenburg and Vierzon have been, on several occasions, guests at Hereford’s Mayor Making.
In spring and autumn each year the Association publishes a newsletter for its members with reports of exchanges, events and visits between our twin towns. See Newsletter for some excerpts of past editions.
 After much lobbying by the Twinning Association Hereford now has its own Twinning signs—paid for by Hereford City Council—on the main approach roads into Hereford.
Looking ahead
The programme for 2007 will include, among other social events, a visit to Hereford in June from the partners in Dillenburg and a visit by members of the Association to Vierzon. Accommodation on these visits is usually provided in partners’ houses which has resulted in some long-standing friendships across the borders.

Come and join us
The Association welcomes new members. The annual membership fee is:
£10 Individual membership per adult
plus
£5 for Children of school age in the family
£25 for Groups & Associations.
