633rd Mayor – Cllr Len Tawn

Councillor Len Tawn was elected the 633rd Mayor of Hereford for the Municipal Year 2014 – 2015

Len Tawn was born in 1954 in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. Both his parents were farm workers and moved frequently. From eleven years old Len worked in shops on Saturdays and did weekend paper deliveries. At nineteen he had his first store. Then he moved on to variety of other sales work.

Len has fond memories of Hereford from when he delivered bread around the city in the early 1970’s. Len had been good friends with Jenny since 1981. She is Hereford born and they married in 2000.

Len worked in the family business, set up by her grandfather, which he and Jenny bought it in 2004 from Jenny’s father Charles. The business is expanding, now in a mainstream shopping street, surviving despite the difficult trading times we are in. In 2007 Len and Jenny moved into Herefordshire. Len was elected to the City Council in 2011.

Len believes that you can achieve anything through hard work and dedication, although it often takes longer than you want. Honesty and reliability are important, as is listening with an open mind. A man of few words, he prefers to let his actions speak for him. He believes his business experience is an asset he brings to the council. Passionate about the city, Len is determined to promote Hereford and all its assets, especially its marvellous people.

Councillor Len Tawn chose to support the retailTrust and SSAFA during his term of office.
